Scientific Visualization

Volume rendering has proven to be a very efficient and effective tool that can be used for scientific visualization purposes, specifically in exploring static as well as time-varying volumetric data. Forsslund Systems uses a Direct Volume Rendering technique to achieve a 2D projection from 3D data sets. Using CT scans from real patient cases and applying rendering techniques, we are able to deform/carve the image in realtime.

Direct Volume Rendering provides a means of enabling haptic feedback that is able to reflect realtime changes in volumetric data. This allows for haptic feedback to be introduced during exploration of dyanmic behaviour in scientific visualization. Feedback that is consistent with changes in transforms can also be obtained [Palmerius, Cooper, Ynnerman, 2007].
